The People’s Voice

The voice of the people are crying out in anger all the while spewing venomous and hateful words back and forth, gloating over the pain and demise of another.

Eyes are closed to compassion and empathy. There is an absence and inability to connect to humanities beating heart.

There has been an intentional act and desensitization, that has weaved its way into the moral fiber of our family, our homes and communities alike.

Why? Because, there is an absence of Oneness.

When we know who we are as a community, we know then what happens to one, impacts us all.

The Oneness of who we are in God. “Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matthew 22:37 – 39

Love thy neighbor as thyself?

When the foundation of love is removed from society, it is like a house built on sinking sand. The fall will be great, because it has nothing solid or firm to stand upon.

“United we stand, and divided we fall.” The United States has become divided country on many issues of politics, religion, racial inequality and so on.  

Instead of rallying together as a united front, the mighty dragon has unleashed its fiery inferno of hell causing suffering and destruction of life as we know it.

Children are crying.

Mothers are mourning.

Men are dying.

The hurting are hurting the hurting.

Individuals are walking aimlessly around, exiled with no sense of belonging. Their anguished cries are thrashing to be heard on the threshing floor of justice.

Do you hear me?!

Do you feel me?!

Do you see me?!

These are the voices that are desperate for freedom from the bondages that have held them captive in the land of the free.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., said in his I Have A Dream speech, “When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the ‘unalienable Rights’ of ‘Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.’ It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked insufficient funds.”

Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream was for all people and as long as injustices ring from the mountain top, the promissory is still marked insufficient.

The curse of slavery and the intended genocide of groups of people have created a ripple effect that is impacting our nation and nations abroad.

“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.” Matthew 5:9

I hear you!

I feel you!

I see you!

I invite the hurting, the lost, the wounded, the suffering, the castaways, the misunderstood, communities, elected and government officials to join me to a roundtable of peace.

Together we can and we will heal our lands.

Suicide Epidemic: Law Enforcement, First Responders & Veterans

Lights out! 

A final farewell to family and friends by ones on hands, leaves family and friends to wonder, “What did I miss?” “What could I have done to help them?”

Suicide is a growing epidemic that my fellow Brothers and Sisters in law enforcement, first responders and military personnel succumb to daily. Sadly, those who take their own lives are no longer looked at for all the good they offered the world, but are viewed as an outcast, a failure or weak for taking their lives. They are made to be an example of what you shouldn’t be like, never addressing the underline issues of what they faced. 

What some people fail to see is that on a daily bases law enforcement, first responders and military personnel carry the weight of responsibility to be a guardian and a protector upon this land. The things they see can never be erased from their memories, which “…are not flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” They have tread in the devils den. 

Though companies and government entities are bringing more awareness to it, I must admit, members however feel like “Big Brother” is looking and whatever they say will be used against them. Thereby destroying any thought of their future to maintain in a field they love. 

Because some leaders do not believe in psychiatric world of medicine, jokes are made if you find yourself in need to seek help. So the individual are left to fend for themselves and are faced with not only dealing with this heavy and unbearable weight on their own, but the families that also depend on them as well. 

So instead of talking it out with a trusted members, they hide behind the shadows of alcohol, prescription drugs and other addictive behaviors to escape the pressure. We are now dealing with the wounded warrior who are incapable of helping themselves. 

I’m here to tell you, sometimes the rescuers need to be rescued. 

As leaders, it important to take care of those who sacrifice themselves daily for the sake of their communities by making it a daily practice to check in with them physically, spiritually and emotionally. 

When one is struggling, don’t look at it as a mark of shame, but an opportunity to not only lift them up, but to give them give resources that will help them to deal with the burdens they carry.

They lay down their lives for our communities. Let our community leaders unite together and show them are not only loved, appreciated, honored but are able to stand proudly without fear.

May they know, “You are not forgotten! Don’t give up on us, because we will not give up on you.”
